My name is Maria and I am an actor, a photographer and a teacher. As an actor I observe people hoping to recreate truthful behavior onstage or in front of a camera. As a photographer, my interest in the street evolved as I began to capture the private unguarded moments of people moving through their day. I look for a narrative, a surrealistic situation or a dialogue between elements in the frame. I’m always trying to capture that ‘decisive moment’ which reveals an aspect of conflict and imperfection in human nature. There is always a story to catch. As Joel Meyerowitz said “You look one moment and there’s everything, next moment it’s gone.” I want to capture a moment in time after which nothing will ever be the same again.
